Venture Off-Campus Into the World of Louis Vuitton

The House of Louis Vuitton released their new pop-up exhibition “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” on Oct. 27 in the Financial District of Manhattan, celebrating the history and iconography of Louis Vuitton’s designs since the founding of the legendary company in 1825. Although your student budget may not be able to afford any of Louis Vuitton’s luxury-priced luggage, clothing or fragrances, you can certainly lust over its impeccable artistry behind glass panels as admission into the museum is free!

“Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” is located on 86 Trinity Pl and is available for viewing between 10 a.m.-8 p.m. from Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday. Walk-ins are allowed but tickets are also available online. The show takes up two floors, with most of its displays on the main floor and the final exhibits located on a separate mezzanine level.

You might lack the jet-setting lifestyle of a typical “Louis Girl,” but the main floor takes you on a five-part excursion through the different methods of travel to learn how Louis Vuitton has redefined style when it comes to every type of adventure, from yachting to aviation. Louis Vuitton proves that it has continued to revolutionize fashion for all sorts of activities.

Located on the mezzanine, mannequins with Louis Vuitton’s most famous red carpet and runway garments are displayed. Here, you can gawk at the beauty of the couture designs worn by your favorite celebrities like Michelle Williams and Naomi Campbell. Being able to view the intricate pieces in person allows you to appreciate the artistry of Louis Vuitton’s collections better than if you were to view them online or on TV.

The exhibit leads directly into a gift shop, where there are items like books, postcards and designer goods being sold. Although the Louis Vuitton perfumes retail for hundreds of dollars, trying the sample ones at the counter are free! The attendants working at the exhibit also give out a complementary Louis Vuitton pin as you leave the building, so everyone leaves with a little souvenir commemorating their excursion to “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez.”

If you want to take a break and get off campus for a bit, I would definitely recommend checking out the Louis Vuitton exhibit. It’s only a few subway stops away from NYU via the R train, and I only needed around an hour to truly immerse myself in the experience. This pop-up museum is open until early January, so make sure to visit before winter break! If you are an enthusiast for high fashion couture, “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” is a truly inspiring site to see.
